JANUARY 21-22, 2012

- Ranch riding, Ranch trail,
Conformation, Intro to Reining & Flag work

Instructor - Mandi Quam

COST: $262.50 for 2 days

The focus of this clinic is to improve a horse's ability and willingness - at a ground-covering walk, working trot and lope -performed between obstacles, performing these gaits on the correct lead and with an alert attitude, with a reasonably loose rein that maintains contact with the horse –qualities required of a ranch horse during the course of a normal day's ranch work, as horse/rider perform several tasks.

It will also assist you in working with your horse to reverse away from the rail, to stop and back and to pick up an extended trot and extended lope. The goal is to have your horse traveling with his head held in a normal position, ears alert and moving at a natural speed for the gait you asked him for – also for making a smooth transition between the gaits, for keeping the correct lead, and for maintaining the gait you asked for, until you request a change.

Each person will have the opportunity to spend time to work the mechanical cow or FLAG. Finally some time will be spent on offering tips on presenting the horse, as the best balanced, uniformly muscled athlete possible.

- Mandi won the title of Reserve Ranch Horse Champion at the 2011 PQHB Futurity. She & her husband ranch and she trains horses.

People will also be tutored to help your horse find and maintain all three gaits & change leads appropriately - showing smoothness, finesse, positive attitude and quickness while performing various maneuvers, while using controlled speed and variable speed. Simple patterns will be introduced. Instructions will be offered to help participants teach their horse to be willingly guided or controlled with little or no apparent resistance and dictated to completely.
